Information About
The Accounting Society

Purposes of The Accounting Society

The purposes of The Accounting Society are to provide its members opportunities for

        professional growth

        service

        social interaction and

        recognition of academic achievement.

These objectives are accomplished through the activities of the organization and the participation of its members. Seniors must focus on the job search and prepare to enter the job market and the profession. Underclassmen need assistance with career choices. All students need to know more about the opportunities for professional certifications and to have opportunities to network with professionals, alumni, and peers through meetings and social functions.

Qualifications for Membership

Membership in The Accounting Society is open to ANY student, graduate or undergraduate, who is interested in and would benefit from the activities of the organization.

Recognizing Academic Achievement

Special recognition will be made each semester for students who achieve the traditional qualifications of the Accounting Honor Society, namely:

1. has declared accounting as his or her major,
2. completed at least 30 hours of college course work,
3. completed Principles of Accounting I and II,
4. achieved an overall GPA of 3.0, and
5. achieved an accounting GPA of 3.3.

And more fun!

Meetings and tours provide members opportunities to see practical application of information they are learning in classes. And volunteering to assist others with the preparation of their income tax returns can be a great "ministry!"

Be Active in Something!

The School of Business is fortunate to have several active, successful clubs: the Administrative Management Society (AMS), the student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA), the student chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and The Accounting Society. You are encouraged to choose a club (or two!) which parallels your interests and to become involved in the activities of the club. We sincerely hope you will consider making The Accounting Society the great organization it has the potential of becoming!

Payment of Annual Dues

Students desiring to become members of The Accounting Society should complete a membership form and return it with the payment of annual dues. Annual dues are $10 through the first meeting and $15 thereafter.
